PLEASE DON'T BID IF YOU ARE UNWILLING TO ACCEPT THE RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH SHIPPED HATCHING EGGS**** RIBBON IN THE PHOTO CAME FROM EGGS THAT WON 1ST PLACE AT THE OFFICIAL MCCUSA EGG SHOW HELD AT THE DAYTON FANCY FEATHERS CLUB IN DAYTON OHIO****
MY FLOCK: This auction is for 12 ++ Wheaten Marans hatching eggs. You will receive 12 eggs plus 2 extra eggs depending on availability. The Marans breed lays the darkest egg of any chicken breed. Marans are a large breed and will go broody.
BREEDING: I'm a member of the Marans Chicken Club USA and The Marans Club. I work
diligently to improve my flock each generation. I maintain the APA standard of perfection which is based on the standards set forth by the French Marans Club.
EGG COLOR: Marans eggs are generally quite dark and tend to lighten up as the laying cycle continues. After they molt and production starts up again then the cycle starts over. My hens are in various laying cycles therefore egg color may vary from what you see in the picture. The best Marans eggs will typically score 4-7. Eggs that score 8 and 9 aren't as common. It is my intention to give you the darkest eggs possible.
EGG SHELLS: Marans egg shells are extremely tough. Chicks may have a hard time hatching and higher than average mortality is possible.
CHICKS: Will be standard Wheaten, Blue Wheaten, Splash Wheaten, and Silver Blue Wheaten. Chicks can be sexed with 10-14 days of hatching.
RECESSIVES: Marans that don't meet the APA standard aren't kept in my breeding pens. However, recessives can happen and offspring may have non feathered legs, yellow legs, and improper markings. There is some variation to be expected with the Splash and Silver Blue Marans cockerels.
MY RESPONSIBILITIES: My flock of Marans are not confined to cages and have access to the outside daily. I collect eggs 2 or 3 times a day and turn them several times per day. Some eggs may be slightly soiled. I don't wash eggs and I will not ship any heavily soiled eggs. I carefully double box the package using a hybrid version of the Meeks Method and I personally deliver each package to my USPS location.
HELPFUL TIPS: Once you received your eggs you can set them immediately in your incubator but avoid turning them for the first 12-24 hours. The handling of eggs during the incubation period must be avoided and this includes candling. Marans eggs can be very difficult to candle and they take an extra strong light. The standard candling lights on the marked don't have sufficient light for Marans eggs. If you would like to candle your eggs then I recommend doing this on day 18 using a strong flashlight.
HEALTH/TESTING: I'm a licensed Pennsylvania State Certified Poultry Technician through the Pennsylvania Dept of Ag. My birds are healthy and have tested negative for avian influenza and salmonella pullorum. My testing is done through the Penn State Diagnostic Lab. I'm required to test my birds yearly for exhibition purposes. If requested I will send you a copy of my recent testing results.
DIET: My birds free range as long as the weather is permits. They are fed locally grown grains. In addition they are also fed fruits and vegetables.
PAYMENT: Payment is due within 24 hours after the auction has ended. I usually ship with 24 hours after payment. I prefer to ship Monday thru Thursday and I will avoid weekend shipping as much as possible.
SHIPPING: Shipping charges are a flat .50 via USPS Priority Mail. I double box shipments using a hybrid version of the Meeks Method. The package will be insured against loss and/or damage. You will get an email notification with the tracking number from the USPS when the package ships. I don't combine shipping for multiple auctions won as I'm limited to the number of eggs I can safely ship. I don't give shipping discounts either. Shipping is available to lower 48 states only. Sorry but no shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. I will only ship to PayPal confirmed addresses.
LOCAL PICK UP: I highly encourage local pick up when possible. Shipping charges will be waived. I'm quite flexible with pick up times.
POST OFFICE PICK UP:
If you would like to arrange the pickup of your package at your USPS location then you will need to provide me with your home/cell phone number for me to write it on the package.
FEEDBACK: Please do not rate my feedback on your hatch rate as I have no control over this. Feedback should be based on your receipt of eggs. I will reciprocate any positive feedback given.
DAMAGE CLAIMS:
In the event your package and contents are damaged then you will need to present the damaged package/eggs to your local USPS Postmaster for verification and take photos of
the damage and forward them to me so I can file a damage claim with the USPS. I will also need your email and phone number for claim purposes. Once the claim is settled you will either get a full refund or replacement eggs if I have them available.
CONTACTING ME: I will answer all questions. Please understand that it may take a few days due to my work schedule. I work in the outdoors therefore I'm not always near an internet source.
*****DISCLAIMER***** You are responsible for your bids so please bid responsibly. Bidders must understand that shipped hatching eggs can be a risk and fertility cannot be guaranteed due to variables beyond my control once the eggs leave my possession. Hatching rates can be compromised through rough postal handling at the sorting centers or by USPS personnel. This may include shifting of package contents through falls or throws, x-ray of the package, and delivering the package in adverse weather conditions. Buyer variables may include inferior incubators, improper incubation practices such as setting the eggs under a broody hen, excessive handling of the eggs during incubation, and/or incubator failures such as a loss of power or not maintaining proper humidity for the eggs. I'm not responsible for any of these potential problems. Hatching eggs are perishable and are not returnable. If you find this unacceptable then please reconsider.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
