We are located in eastern Kentucky (between Grayson & Louisa at Webbville) and breed the Bearded Bantam "Regular" Silkie Chickens. We have been tested and Certified by our State Department of Agriculture as NPIP/AI Clean. At this time, we are collecting fertile eggs from 6 separated color pens Blue/Splash, Black, Buff, Partridge, Paint and White.
A little history about our Silkie Flock:Our first pair of Silkies were given to us by a friend shortly after my husband suffered 3 strokes. We found that in his recovery, animals seemed to reach a spot within his heart that brought about the absolute best therapy We attribute that being a "God thing"...He knows what we need and when They have such a gentle nature about them and we were amazed. Hubby would hold them and stroke their soft plumage. We were smitten!! We wanted more!!Fortunately for us, an acquaintance we met on Facebook had a small flock of Silkies that she wanted to sell because she was returning to work. That introduced us to more colors We purchased the small flock not knowing the history or breeding lines. As we began to learn more about Silkies, we started being able to determine traits that were considered "pet quality", but that was alright, we had a love for those fluffy butts. We were contacted by folks who wanted some hatching eggs. We had never really thought about offering hatching eggs, but things were going in that direction so we researched to find out what we needed to do to be certified to ship those golden nuggets. We contacted our State Department of Agriculture and they sent a representative out to test our flock and inspect our facility. We passed with flying colors!! Woop woop!!!Researching more we started learning what to look for as far as correct toes, combs, colors and the importance of keeping the birds separated according to color by researching breeding charts. We continue to "breed and weed" as we go along because we didn't initially start out with a flock that was top of the line (we didn't even know what that meant LOL).We have been adding new bloodlines, testing fertility of eggs and examining the chicks as they hatch to see how things are going with their coloring, feet, comb, etc. When you purchase our hatching eggs, we want you to understand the history. As we continue to work out the genetics, we are seeing much better plumage. We will never offer our hatching eggs as "Show Quality" because we don't participate in the show circuit, however, we strive to provide a good quality for those who wish to.There is a lot of sorting, separating and research involved in breeding good quality Silkies, I do believe it is a neverending process. My husband and I are farmers with a love for animals and we feel privileged to be working with this breed of birds. When you purchase our hatching eggs, you are buying into our journey. All funds from the sales of our eggs and poultry go directly go back into improving our flock and our overhead costs in maintaining our animals
