8+ *RARE BREAD* Swedish Flower Hatching Eggs. Condition is "New". Shipped with USPS Priority Mail
The Swedish Flower Hen (Skansk Blommehona) is everything it's name implies. They are smart birds, practically valued for their sturdy landrace health and vigor and good production of eggs and meat, but beloved for their lovely colors and brush-stroke impressionist "flower" pattern that brings to mind a Monet masterpiece.
The Swedish Flower Hen is a landrace chicken, which means that it was not engineered, but rather developed naturally over time as it adapted to the environment in which it lived. Although it has been mentioned in various writings over the past 300 years, it's true origins can only be guessed. It is likely that seafarers and settlers brought chickens to remote settlements as a food source and to trade for other goods. These birds most likely fended for themselves and were used for eggs, meat, and feathers. Because of their survival-of-the-fittest development, the Swedish Flower Hen became suited to thriving in the sometimes harsh climate of southern Sweden and became the traditional farm hen of that region.
Sadly, the industrialization of agriculture and it's emphasis on high-production hybrids sidelined traditional hearty, long-lived, reproductively-vital birds and almost brought about the extinction of this breed. By the early 1970's, there were very few Swedish Flower Hens left in the country. The Swedish Genetic Project identified a few isolated flocks and put a plan into place to restore this priceless endangered heritage breed.
    APPEARANCE
Many keepers of Swedish Flower Hens enjoy the great diversity which provides a fun "mixed assortment" all in one pure breed. Base plumage can be black, blue, yellow or red. The white-tipped feather pattern, poetically called "mille fleur" (thousand flowers) creates the illusion of innumerable flowers in blossom. Birds may be crested (from fowl originating in the Vomb area) or non-crested (from fowl originating in the Esarp and Tofta areas), and also tasselled or non-tasselled. Wattles, single comb and earlobes are red, eyes are orange/yellow. The body is medium-sized, round and robust, with roosters weighting in around 8 pounds, hens about 5 1/2 pounds. Skin can be yellow or black mottled, legs are clean and light tan-colored. Chicks may hatch out with pink or grey legs.
    WHY WE LOVE THEM
Swedish Flower Hens are Lisa's favorite!! Our birds are calm, yet have a poise and confidence beyond your average chicken. They are independent, forage well and are predator-savvy, yet can thrive in pens. Our birds are people-friendly and roosters are non-aggressive. They provide up to 200 large to extra-large tinted eggs a year. And most wonderfully of all, they bloom in a profusion of colors like a vast field of wildflowers in Springtime.
    BOUT GRANGER FARM
Robert and Lisa Granger own and run the Granger Farm, a small family affair located on 14 bucolic acres in Granbury, Texas.
Robert, recently retired from cattle ranching, is a mechanical engineer at a nuclear power plant. He's always loved keeping animals, working on house projects and puttering around his place. He had chickens growing up and decided to keep them again, this time with a focus on some unique rare breeds.
Lisa recently retired from her full time job to devote her time and attention to her beautiful birds. Her hobbies and interests include gardening and making jellies and jams from their peaches, boysenberries and grapes. She maintains a stained glass studio in their home and is looking forward to spending more time creating beautiful pieces.
Together, they have a blended family of six children and twelve grandchildren, who are their pride and joy.
With their rare breed flocks, their goals include producing the healthiest, hardiest birds that can both lay well and provide meat for the table; are beautiful to see roaming about the yard; and are family-friendly with pleasant personalities and non-aggressive roos.
Besides chickens, the Grangers keep bees, love to garden, and are always working on something! Robert's current project is a new well house/man cave/incubation station which so far has involved a lot of welding and flipping big, heavy things over with his tractor.
    SHIPPING TERMS AND CONDITIONS
We used to ship on Mondays or Tuesdays only so your eggs would reach you by the weekend. However, due to virus-related delays, that is currently no guarantee your items will reach you before the weekend. Therefore, our current policy is to ship your order as soon as we can after it is placed unless you instruct us otherwise in a message sent WITH your order.
Our fertile hatching eggs are carefully and individually wrapped, given plenty of padding, and shipped by USPS Priority Mail with air cells up. All deliveries are held for pickup at your local post office provided you message us your telephone number at the time you place your order. Otherwise, they will be delivered straight to your address. IF YOU MESSAGE US YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER WHEN PLACING YOUR ORDER, your eggs will be held at the post office to spare them any additional bouncing, jarring, rough handling, and inhospitable temperatures they might experience on an hours-long local delivery truck route. IF WE DO NOT RECEIVE YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER BY MESSAGE AT THE TIME YOU PLACE YOUR ORDER, your eggs will be delivered directly to your address.
We make every effort to ensure your eggs arrive safely and in good condition, however, we have no control of them once they leave our possession. By purchasing our fertile hatching eggs, you understand and accept that we cannot guarantee how our eggs will be treated in transit through the postal system nor can we guarantee delivery within a specified time after we ship the eggs (USPS is responsible for delivery - if they fail in that regard, you may file a claim with them). Extreme temperatures, travel and flight-related air pressure changes, rough handling, delays in transit and delivery, x-ray machines and other factors can all affect the hatchability of eggs. We have no control over these factors. We also have no control of the conditions under which you incubate your eggs. FOR THESE REASONS WE DO NOT GUARANTEE HATCHABILITY. If you do not accept these terms and conditions, do not purchase this item.
    RETURN & REFUND POLICY
We stand behind our products and service and guarantee that your order will arrive intact. We pad and pack carefully. In order for this guarantee to be in effect, you must:
    1. PICK UP AT THE POST OFFICE and make sure the box is in good condition (if box is smashed, punctured or damaged in any way, you will need to file a claim with the post office - we will be happy to assist you if necessary).
    2. OPEN AND INSPECT THE CONTENTS AT THE POST OFFICE as we cannot be liable for any damage once the eggs are removed from the premises. If you receive fewer unbroken eggs than you ordered, contact us IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING YOUR INSPECTION, including picture(s) at the post office of the box(es) and all damaged eggs.
We will promptly refund you the cost of any damaged eggs (not including shipping charges).
    REVIEWS
For hatching eggs, it is protocol to leave a review (if you wish to do so) upon receipt of your eggs, based on seller meeting conditions of the sale. That is, providing, packing and padding the goods purchased in such a manner that they arrive safely, barring any mishandling in transit. Box damage and other handling issues that are the responsibility of USPS should not be held against the seller, and we will happily assist you in resolving that type of issue if it occurs. Please reach out to us if you have any concerns with our product or service as we are customer-focused and want every transaction to be a win-win for buyer and seller. Thank you!
