Description
Gibson Long Neck 5 String Banjo Circa 1962 Pete Seeger Dave GuardWe are offering a
VERY Rare Gibson
RB-180 Long Neck 5 String Banjo.
This was the top of the line Gibson Long neck.
Produced Circa 1962, serial # 61076
Since the flooding of the Cumberland River in Nashville ravaged their production facilities in May of 2010,
Gibson has not assembled or shipped a single banjo since. The site was deemed
irrevocable and was abandoned.
Thus, if you want a Gibson banjo today, the only way to acquire one is to buy a vintage one.
Thus, this banjo is one of the best ever produced, and will accrue in value as time goes by
…
A worthy investment!
Condition: The banjo is in excellent condition over-all. The action is nice and the sound is bold. It does show signs of age, after all it
’
s 59 years old! The only issues I can find are a scratch on the back of the neck, and there are additional holes around the tuners, and a few marks, dings around the edges of the head stock..
It seems as though the tuners have been replaced at some point in time. The
origin
tuners that came on the
banjo
were Klusen stair-step chrome plated with plastic ivory color buttons. Hence the additional holes on the back of the headstock (see close up photo).
This is a one owner instrument, bought new back in the day. I
’m selling it for the family, of the original owner.
This is the same kind of banjo that John Stewart of the Kingston Trio played.
Oner
simular to the one that the
legendary Pete Seeger and Dave
Guard (of the Kingston trio) played.
Included with the banjo is a modern-day gig bag.
Sorry, there is no era-correct hardshell case. However, t
hey
’
re out there if you want one.
Please see the photos for a better idea of the condition.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
