The Gold Deathlayer breed is visually stunning! The erect stature of the bird gives it a regal appearance. They boast a cape of redish gold feathers, a penciled body, a black/green iridescent tail and completely black eyes. They have a tight comb making the breed a great choice for cold climates (the small comb is less prone to frostbite). Roosters weigh about 5 pounds. Hens weigh about 3.5 pounds.
The Westfalische Totleger, better known as the Deathlayer, is a very old and very rare German breed.
T
he most common explanation for their name seems to be based on their egg production. They were said to lay an egg a day until the day they died. While this may be a stretch they are very good layers of medium white eggs.
This extremely rare, shockingly beautiful, ancient German breed has been endangered with extinction for some time. We are proud to be able to offer hatching eggs of this amazing bird to those looking to help bring it back from the brink.
We have been hatching our Gold Deathlayer eggs all spring and are having an excellent fertility and hatch rate from them. We feed a higher protien percentage game bird chick starter to our chics to ensure that they get a good strong start. We always have fresh clean warm water available for them.
The hatching eggs you receive will come from our Gold Deathlayer
chickens shown in the photos.
We purchased our
Gold Deathlayer
chickens as chicks directly from Greenfire Farms.
