Description
Here is an unusual late 1800’s parade torch. What is different about this parade torch are two things. It has a glass globe encaged in a tin framework to protect it. Also, the globe has the manufacturers name embossed on it and patent date. The first word is hard to make out. It looks like ARM, followed by MFG CO. CHICAGO. PAT. JUN. 27 80. Other than the “ARM” everything else is distinct. The metal framework is 4 1/2” X 4 1/2” X 4 1/2”. The diam. of the globe is 4”. What looks like a crack on the globe is what is often referred to as a “straw” mark, that is, where the glass ran a little. The oil lamp burner is a brass ratchet type burner, one that takes a round wick. On the inside of the wick turner it is stamped MADE U. S. A From the bottom of the metal sleeve that would fit on a pole to the top of the metal cage it is 7”. It appears that the posts were painted red and the rest was painted gray at some point. Overall, this parade torch is in fine condition. If you are a collector, particularly of parade items manufactured in Chicago, then this just might appeal to you.See my other auctions for applied handle finger
