Very Large, Very Scarce, Colorful, & Unusual c.1890 Kennebec GRANGE #4, Maine 2-SIDED Fraternal GRANGE Membership RibbonOriginal buff/greens antique ribbon. Very fancy and appears to be a membership or fraternal ribbon. Was a membership ribbon for formal meetings and functions, etc. Measures about 8 1/2" long and about 2 1/2" wide. Very large and showy!! On the top is a metallic clip with pin to hold it on; Hanging from that is the "HUSBANDRY" medallion shown. At the bottom is gold braided fringe. Printed on it in gold is: "KENNEBEC, MAINE GRANGE #4, POMONA".
On the reverse is black silk with silver printing and is printed with similar information. APPARENTLY THIS SIDE WAS CONVENIENTLY USED AT FUNERALS FOR FELLOW MEMBERS WHICH WAS OCCASIONALLY NEEDED.
Has 2" fancy early heavy gold braided fringe along the bottom edge, which can be seen from both sides. Has fancy large celluloid pinback at the top. Has flags and the letters P. H.
The GRANGE is one of the most popular early fraternal organizations in rural, farming areas/towns, SUCH AS MAINE, and still exists today.
Ribbon is in perfect condition on BOTH SIDES, including printing. You will not find another in such nice, untouched condition.
Please see scans for details. This would make a great period display item or will make a collector of such items very happy to find. ALSO ANYONE ELSE THAT COLLECTS GRANGE ITEMS, OR ITEMS FROM RURAL MAINE WILL FIND THIS OF INTEREST. Well over 100 years old!!
In excellent condition, this was used a lot but was shown a lot of respect and care.
