Very Large, Scarce Colorful, & Unusual 1890 West Newbury, Massachusetts 2-SIDED Fraternal GRANGE Membership Ribbon
DESCRIPTION:
Original large blue silk ribbon for the "Laurel Grange No.161 Inc, West Newbury, Mass.". Printed in gold on it. Very fancy and appears to be a membership or fraternal ribbon. Was a membership ribbon for formal meetings and functions, etc.  Measures about 8 1/2" long and about 2 1/2" wide. Very large and showy!!
On the reverse is black silk with silver printing and is printed with similar information. APPARENTLY THIS SIDE WAS CONVENIENTLY USED AT FUNERALS FOR FELLOW MEMBERS.
Has 2" fancy early heavy gold braided fringe along the bottom edge, which can be seen from both sides.  Has fancy large celluloid pinback at the top. Has flags and the letters P. H.  THIS IS ONE IS ALSO PARTICULARLY NICE AS IT IS COMPLETE WITH THE ORIGINAL THIN COLORED, BRAIDED CORD TO HANG THIS AROUND HIS NECK, so that it would hang about 10" down his chest. YOU RARELY SEE THESE RIBBONS STILL HAVING THIS HANGING CORD.
The GRANGE is one of the most popular early fraternal organizations in rural, farming areas/towns, and still exists today.
Ribbon is perfect on the black side, including printing. Printing is faint on the blue side and is split along the bottom (can be repaired).
Please see scans for details. This would make a great period display item or will make a collector of such items very happy to find. ALSO ANYONE ELSE THAT COLLECTS GRANGE ITEMS WILL FIND THIS OF INTEREST. Well over 100 years old!!
In very good condition, this was used a lot but was shown a lot of respect and care. ESPECIALLY RARE WITH THE NECK HANGING CORD!!
PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!!
